The Quebec Bound (Pee-Wee Major) 2011 Mid-Fairfield team embarked on its journey this past weekend, from September 7th through the 10th, in the “Just Get Good Kickoff Classic” held in Rochester, NY. With the first weekend of the year came the anticipation of new faces and a fresh start, but also the possibility of some initial rust as the team began to build its chemistry.
Weekend Scores
A Dominant Display
Mid-Fairfield left no doubt about their readiness for the season, delivering a spectacular performance throughout the tournament. They outscored their opponents by an impressive margin, amassing an astonishing 45 goals while conceding only 3 throughout the competition.
A Strong Start
The team wasted no time making its presence felt. Friday morning at 7 am, they opened the tournament with a convincing 6-1 victory over the Philadelphia Junior Flyers. After a well-deserved rest, they faced off against the Columbus Blue Jackets at 6 pm, securing a 5-1 victory.
Dominance on the Ice
The following morning, with the sand still in their eyes, they displayed sheer dominance with a resounding 12-0 win over Victory Honda. This impressive performance set the stage for a quarterfinals matchup against the Woodbridge Wolfpack later that Saturday. Despite the Wolfpack’s strong form, Mid-Fairfield was firing on all cylinders and clinched a commanding 10-0 win, propelling them into the semi-finals.
A Grudge Match
The semi-final showdown was against the Rochester Coalition, a team they hadn’t faced since last season in Pittsburgh. Last season, Rochester had emerged victorious against their former teammate, Charlie Severo. However, this time, Severo and Mid-Fairfield were prepared and determined. They secured their spot in the finals with a decisive 7-0 victory.
A Clash of Titans
In the finals, Mid-Fairfield faced off against the formidable Boston Junior Terrier Team, who had been ranked #3 in the previous season and had defeated last year’s #1, the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite, in the semi-finals with a 4-2 score. This highly anticipated matchup pitted two of the best teams against each other.
An Epic Battle
The game lived up to its billing and was nothing short of epic. It was a true showcase of talent and determination. One of the highlights was watching Mid-Fairfield’s Austin Jessup on Defense, matched up against the Terriers’ Carter Watson, providing thrilling moments for fans.
The Victory
In the end, Mid-Fairfield emerged triumphant with a 5-1 victory, capturing their first tournament title of the season. Power Center Charlie Fox’s remarkable four-goal performance played a pivotal role in sealing the deal for Mid-Fairfield.
Looking Ahead
This upcoming weekend, Mid-Fairfield faces an EHF rival, Top Gun, hailing from Salem, NH, in a home game at Chelsea Piers. The game times are set for 12 pm and 3 pm EST. This matchup will serve as a crucial tune-up as Mid-Fairfield prepares to defend back-to-back titles at the Challenger Cup in Detroit, Michigan, starting on September 21st.
This tournament win marks the beginning of an exciting season for Mid-Fairfield as they aim to build on their success and continue their quest for excellence in the world of youth hockey.
